President Bola Tinubu has sworn in two new National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Abdulrazak Tukur, representing the North West, and Sunday Aja from Ebonyi State for the South East, took the oath of office on Monday at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Their appointments followed their nomination in November 2024 and subsequent confirmation by the Senate.
The swearing-in took place briefly at the Council Chambers ahead of the 27th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Also sworn in were Ikpeme Ndem from Cross River State and Justice Buba Nyaure from Taraba State as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Following the ceremony, the FEC meeting moved into a closed-door session.
Among those in attendance were Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Other ministers present included Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
At its previous session on May 5, the Council approved the “Renewed Hope Nigeria-First Policy,” mandating the prioritization of locally made goods and services in government procurement.
